UPDATE: The Bonney Lake Police Department PIO Twitter account reported a family of three, an infant child, mother and father in mid 20s, were killed when a large portion of concrete fell from SR 410 onto a truck on Angeline Road.
Bonney Lake Mayor Neil Johnson stated in press release following the incident, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of those involved in this accident. The city mourns the loss of life associated with a project designed to enhance the safety of its citizens.”
According to the city release, the construction project was designed to widen the bridge and provide a safe walkway for pedestrians to cross the busy highway bridge. Construction workers were working on the bridge barrier for later removal when the accident occurred. Possible one-lane temporary closures of Angeline Road were planned for later in the day as work progressed on the bridge barrier. The bridge work is being performed under direction of the city’s general contractor, WHH Nisqually Federal Services.
