City hosting breakfast, town hall open house Jan. 30 at City Hall

The Bonney Lake City Council will host a community pancake breakfast and town hall open house from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Jan. 30 at the Bonney Lake Senior Center, 19304 Bonney Lake Blvd.

The mayor and city council will be available to discuss community concerns. Also, information displays will be set up on the WSU Forest, trees, trails and parks; general updates on the city and private capital projects; and new Interim Justice Center project and downtown plan.

During the town hall open house, the council will use the time to conduct a 30-minute focus group exercise on general city services. There will be two focus group sessions, one starting at 8:30 a.m. and the other starting at 10:30 a.m.

Volunteers needed for homeless count in Pierce County

The Tacoma-Pierce County Coalition to End Homeless-ness is seeking the community’s help in conducting its annual census of the county’s homeless population.

The point-in-time survey is scheduled for Jan. 28 and Jan. 29. More than 100 community volunteers are needed to visit homeless individuals and ask a few questions about their situations. Volunteers will be paired for safety and will attempt to locate all unsheltered individuals who are homeless.

Group hosting Feb. 9 workshop targeting Medicare fraud

The Pierce County Aging and Disability Resource Center will host a presentation to help consumers recognize the signs of Medicare fraud and save themselves endless troubles with their health care bills. The presentation is 7 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Parkland/Spanaway Branch Library, 13718 Pacific Ave. S. in Spanaway.

The presentation will be made by community members of the Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisors. Trained SHIBA volunteers are very active in advising consumers, identifying and reporting Medicare fraud and helping consumers continue to enjoy the benefits of their Medicare coverage.
