Sheriff’s department to hire 40 deputies to combat understaffing

A recently published study shows the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department to be “severely” understaffed by nearly 80 employees. The department is enacting a five-year plan to hire 40 more deputies and 40 more employees to continue to operate at a safe level. The cost of this plan is going to be between $9 and $11 million a year. Read more about the study and the department’s plan here.=

Bonney Lake Public Works director retires

After working in Public Works for more than 40 years, Bonney Lake’s Public Works Director Daniel Grigsby retired last Thursday. Instead of hiring a replacement, the city plans to combine the Public Works department with the Community Development department and call it the Public Services department.
