A Sumner High School student made false bomb threats this morning, according to an email sent from Principal Bill Gaines to parents and guardians. Classes are continuing as normal and Sumner police have followed up with the student.

The situation came to administrators’ attention after two students reported they had overheard the suspected student talk about making a bomb threat to prompt an early school dismissal.

“We immediately contacted the Sumner Police Department who reviewed the facts and evaluated the situation,” Gaines wrote in his email. “The police were quickly able to determine that this was a non-credible threat and there was enough information to identify the student and to confirm that the threat was a hoax. At no time was there any risk to students or staff.”

Gaines thanked the students for reporting what they heard, and reassured parents and guardians that the school would always discipline and prosecute threats to students and staff.
