The city of Bonney Lake is hosting its only scheduled boater safety class May 8 at the Public Safety Building.

State law requires all boaters age 30 and younger to take the course in order to receive a boater safety card by taking either the approved eight-hour course or an online equivalency.

The boater safety card is required to operate boats with motors of at least 15 horsepower.

The course costs $15, pre-paid, and after completion participants will receive certification and paperwork to get their boater safety card, which is an additional $10 payable to the state Department of Licensing.

Unless there is high demand, this will be the only course offered this year in Bonney Lake.

The boater safety course is scheduled for 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
