Four Sumner High School FFA members took first place among 38 teams in the 81st National FFA Convention’s Meats and Career Development competition that took place in October in Indianapolis.

The winning team members were Christian Reinke, Tristan Hanon, Caitlin Quesenberry and Eric Larson, coached by SHS agricultural sciences teacher Rusty Finch. It was the first Washington team to place first in that category, Sumner School District Communications Director Ann Cook said.

In the individual meats evaluation, Reinke placed fourth; Larson, fifth; Hanon, seventh; and Quesenberry, ninth.

Other award recipients included: Kelsey Oliver and Caitlin Wininger, gold medals, animal science–zoology; Tim Hurd, silver medal, biochemistry-microbiology-food service; Becca Humphries and Alexandra Montano, gold medals, biochemistry-microbiology-food science; Michelle Choe and Parker Wilson, gold medals, Botany. In the seventh- through ninth-grade division: Jessa Reed, bronze, animal science-zoology; Rachel Patrick and Veronica Carnahan, silver, biocehmistry-microbiology-food science; and Haylee Olson and Tyeanne Lubking, bronze, engineering.
