Bonney Lake couldn’t translate regular-season success into a postseason victory, suffering a pair of shutout losses and seeing their 2010 campaign come to a quick close.

The regular season had provided reason for high hopes, as the Panthers captured the South Puget Sound League 3A championship with a 7-0-1 record.

That fine finish placed the Panthers into a subdistrict contest Aug. 12 against Mount Rainier, the regular-season champion from the Seamount League. Playing an evening game at Burien’s Highline Stadium, Bonney Lake lost 3-0.

That game was for seeding purposes only and the Panthers took the No. 2 berth into the West Central District tournament. WCD action kicked off Saturday with the Panthers traveling to Burien’s Highline Stadium and a contest against the North Kitsap Wolves. Bonney Lake came away on the short end of a 2-0 score in the winner-to-state, loser-out contest.
