Sumner band auction and dance set for March 5
The Sumner Band Parents Association will host its annual Big Band Dance and Auction from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. March 5 at Sumner High School. Themed “A Note of Thanks,” the evening will include dinner, a silent auction, raffle baskets, an opportunity to win a $500 gas card and a trip to Las Vegas. The jazz bands from Sumner, Bonney Lake and White River high schools – along with those from Lakeridge, Mountain View and Sumner middle schools – will be providing music throughout the evening, beginning at 6 p.m.. New this year is a catered dinner option featuring prime rib and chicken Romano, with dessert, for $12 each. For those not interested in dinner, dessert, theater seating and the auction tickets are available for $5. Tickets may be purchased by mailing checks to Sumner Band Parents Association, P.O. Box 355, Sumner, 98390 before by today, Wednesday. Tickets also can be purchased at B Natural Music, 18801 Old Sumner/Buckley Highway in Bonney Lake. The Sumner Band Parents Association is raising money to purchase additional uniforms for the surge of incoming freshman in the fall along with participation fees, transportation costs and equipment and maintenance expenses. The Sumner High School band can be seen performing at local events like the Daffodil Parade and Western Washington State Fair as well as events in Wenatchee and Surrey, British Columbia. The band curriculum includes field show, symphonic band, marching band and jazz band. During a typical school year, the band participates in 10 parades, three competitions, two music festivals and five concert performances. The average band size is about 100 students, plus color guard. During the summer months the Sumner Marching Band program is opened to all Sumner School District band members and they participate in an additional five parades, including the Seattle Seafair Torchlight Parade. The Sumner Band Parents Association is currently seeking donations. Photo club meets Thursday
The Rainier Hills Photography club is meeting at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the Rainier Hills Christian Fellowship, 23711 Entwhistle Rd., Buckley. The club is open to all photography enthusiasts in the Sumner-Bonney Lake – Buckley – Enumclaw area and promises to help improve skills as a photographer.
