Now that the County has finished moving its online charter and code to Code Publishing, a Seattle-based Codification company, citizens and county staff will see and experience increased functionality provided through the new site. The overall responsibility for the charter and code remains with the County Council and it is still accessible through www.piercecountywa.org/code.

Individuals desiring to browse and locate information can now more easily search and navigate the entire charter and code. New features include:

• The ability to share and link to specific titles, chapters and even sections of the charter and code.
• The ability to share code via e-mail, Facebook, Twitter, Google, and more.
• The ability to print and save in multiple formats, including Word, PDF, Kindle, iPad, and more.
• An expandable/collapsible table of contents.
• Links to other referenced code sections and links to state laws.
• Advanced, scalable search options.

“The new hosted code is another step the County and Council are taking to simplify public accessibility to the information they need,” said Ric Fritz, Office Manager of the Pierce County Council. “I have received tremendous feedback from Dennis Hanberg, Director of Planning and Land Services, and Brian Ziegler, Director of Public Works and Utilities, expressing excitement about how this new hosted code is going to benefit both their customers and their staff in a number of ways.”

This project is an ongoing collaborative effort of the Pierce County Council, Planning and Land Services, Public Works and Utilities, and Information Technology departments, as well as the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

Pierce County News will air a segment highlighting the move in its weekly program April 9. It can be seen at 7 p.m. on channels 22/522HD on the Click! cable system, channel 22 on Comcast, and channel 20 on Rainier Connect.
