Four Tapps Island residents were treated for minor smoke inhalation following a fire at their home Thursday evening.

East Pierce Fire and Rescue crews responded to reports of a house fire around 8:30 p.m. on the 2000 block of 200th Avenue East on Tapps Island. The firefighters arrived to find smoke and flames visible from the two-story, wood-frame house.

According to East Pierce Battalion Chief Jay Adams, the residents evacuated the house before the firefighters arrived. They were evaluated at the scene for minor smoke inhalation, however, no one was transported to the hospital.

Fire damage was limited to a portion of the first floor of the more than 5,000 square-foot house. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Firefighters from the Valley Regional Fire Authority provided mutual aid.
