The American Cancer Society has selected Pam Borg-Jensen to serve as honorary chair for this year’s Relay For Life of Sumner/Bonney Lake.

Borg-Jensen has been involved with Relay For Life for more than 15 years, first with Puyallup as a team member, captain and committee member and then with the Sumner/Bonney Lake, serving as committee chairperson during the first two years of that event and as a commmittee member, and team captain for several more years.

She became involved in relay shortly after she was diagnosed with breast cancer in the 1992.

Her mother formed a team with the Puyallup event and asked her to fly up from San Francisco to participate.

Several years later, her mother was diagnosed with cancer and later passed away.

ACS will celebrate 25 years of Relay For Life since the first event was held in Tacoma.

Relay For Life, ACS’s signature event, raises awareness and funds to save lives, help those touched by cancer, and empower people to fight back against this disease.

Since its inception, it has raised more than $2.5 billion.

Relay For Life of Sumner/Bonney Lake will be Aug. 7 and 8 at Sunset Chev Stadium in Sumner.

To participate, call the American Cancer Society at 253-272-5767 or 1-800-ACS-2345 or visit www.relayforlifeofsumnerbonneylake.org.
