The Bonney Lake Chamber of Commerce started the new year with its monthly luncheon at a new location.
More than 50 chamber members and visitors attend Thursday’s event at the Swiss Sportsmen Club on 198th Avenue East.
The monthly luncheons had been in the Windermere Building in Bonney Lake, but moved to the Swiss for 2010, with Dinners Done Right of Bonney Lake providing the meal.
Executive Director Lora Butterfield told about the chamber’s new Web site and topics for upcoming luncheons.
Butterfield said the chamber’s job is to help local businesses and the chamber will focus more on supplying information and speakers to aid them.
She said the chamber will host different topics at the luncheons to help existing businesses.
“That is what my main focus is, to help new businesses,” Butterfield said. “I feel we have a list of topics to help businesses. Businesses want to make more money and save more money.”
Butterfield presented an overview of the chamber’s new Web site – www.bonneylakechamber.com.
She describe the new Web site as a “virtual chamber office.”
“This will be a place for our members and people interested in business and to check out our resources and see their businesses highlighted,” she said.
She said the site has a portion for video feeds, rotation of news stories and a place highlighting new members. The site will also be linked to the chamber’s Facebook page and Twitter.
“This is a work in progress,” she said.
Butterfield said she is working on the Web site on creating a Businesss Resource Center that will have information that can help businesses grow.
She said chamber members can also place advertisements, sales and job openings on the site.
She said the chamber’s old Web site will be used as a resource of information for the community.
Also during the luncheon, David Wells, special events coordinator for Bonney Lake, gave a 15-minute presentation on upcoming events planned by the city.
“We have been asked to do more with less,” Wells said.
The Easter Egg Hunt is this year’s first city event on April 3.
“The children can pick up more than 15,000 eggs in less than two minutes,” said Wells, who is also planning for an adult egg hunt.
This year, Bonney Lake Day will be a one-day event instead of two, he added.
“City staff will use furlough days so no overtime pay is needed for a city festival,” Wells said.
He said Kids Club will once again be offered for a nine-week period. Wells said last year between 300 and 500 children attended the nine events – with more than 500 turning out for Reptile Man.
“We are expecting more than 700 people to come to this year’s Reptile Man show,” Wells said.
He said once again Tunes@Tapps will run nine weeks from July 7 to Sept 1, with The Great Pretenders performing at the first show.
Friday Night Flicks is set for Aug. 6, Aug 20 and Sept. 3. He said the third movie will be “New Moon.”
Wells said Bark in the Park is slated for June 19 and a Healthy Living Expo is July 24.
