The Spartans traveled to Auburn to face the Auburn Mountainview Lions Thursday for the ROOT Sports high school game of the week.

Down a score, Sumner had seconds left in the game to tie but were caught short of the goal line.

The Spartans lost 42-35, ending their undefeated season.

Sumner 1-1 in conference play and 3-1 overall.
