BLHS SOCCER: Panther season ends abruptly in playoff loss to Lakeside High

Bonney Lake High’s successful spring soccer season crashed to a close May 17 when the Panthers fell 3-2 to the squad from Lakeside High.

The loss, coming in the first round of the 16-team state Class 3A playoffs, was particularly painful because the Panthers built a 2-0 and let things slip away. Lakeside scored twice in the closing minutes to tie the contest and then won in the most dramatic way possible, a shootout.

The loss came at Interbay Stadium in Seattle.

Bonney Lake finished the season with an overall record of 15-2-2, captured the South Puget Sound League 3A championship, won a pair of postseason contests and, for the first time in school history, earned a berth in the state tournament.

After defeating the Panthers and advancing to the 3A’s Elite Eight, Lakeside was paired against Glacier Peak and was eliminated by the defending state champion.
