It was a win-loss ride for the Spartan girls last weekend on the parquet.

The Sumner basketball team lost to Enumclaw Friday 50-45 at  home in a South Puget Sound League 3A game. It was the girls first loss of the season.Coach Jordan Moog wrote in an email,  “Friday was a rough game for us, but good reminder.”

The Spartans came back Saturday and beat Eisenhower 61-32 in a nonleague game.

Sumner is tied for first in the league with Auburn Riverside at 5-1.

In the game against Enumclaw, Jamie Lange, Sumner’s star forward, knocked down 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds despite sitting the end of the third and nearly half of the fourth after picking up her fourth foul.

Lange blocked four and picked the ball once for the Spartans.

Sumner came out strong in the first quarter scoring 13 to Enumclaw’s 6 points. In the second Enumclaw outscored Sumner 20-12 and the game stayed tight until the early in the fourth when Enumclaw ran out to a 10 point lead.

Lange returned at the 7-minute mark in the fourth and Sumner put together a charge using a backcourt press. In the end the hill was too steep to climb for the Spartans.

Claire Selmer scored nine for Sumner and Kennedy Cutter eight. Jane Allyn Norris took down four boards and Selmer grabbed three.

Annie Smith dished off three assists and grabbed one board.

Sumner played a balanced game against Eisenhower.

Lange dropped in 13, Jess Peterson 10 and Cutter nine. On the boards Lange took 12 and Peterson nine.

Anna Huard scored 8 with three assists and one board. Rachel Stowell added six points and two boards.

The Spartans played a double header with the boys basketball team against Bonney Lake Tuesday.
