Crews continue a series of lane and ramp closures on Interstate 5 in Tacoma next week to remove and replace 75 aged and worn concrete roadway panels.

From 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday, July 22 through Thursday, July 26, contractor crews for the Washington State Department of Transportation will reduce southbound I-5 to one lane between S. 48th St. and South M Street.  That single lane will be rerouted onto the southbound collector/distributor running parallel to I-5.

The closures continue Friday and Saturday nights, July 27 and 28, but for extended hours. Work hours those nights are from 10 p.m. to 10 a.m. the following morning. Backups and delays can be expected. Motorists should allow extra time for travel during work hours.

In addition to the lane closures, crews will close two ramps for the same hours:  1) I-705 to southbound I-5; and 2) Pacific Avenue to southbound I-5.  Signed detours will be provided.

This panel-replacement work continues through October.  For more information about the project, please visitwww.tacomatraffic.com.
