BLHS SOCCER: Bonney Lake getting back on course

The Bonney Lake High boys soccer team had made a postseason appearance in every year of the school’s existence – until last season, when a variety of difficulties knocked the Panthers down a few notches.

“Now we’re trying to get the team back on course,” coach Luke Helling-Christy said.

He’s off to a good start, welcoming the largest turnout in school history.

Included in the veteran group are two-year starter Kyle Campbell, a stalwart on defense, and center-midfielder Jordan Billy.

Helling-Christy expects a major contribution from goalkeeper Alex Hall, who played as a freshman and is back as a junior. The coach believes he has one of the league’s best in Hall.

Helling-Christy said this year’s group doesn’t lend itself to a grind-it-out pace. Instead, the Panthers are likely to be a “quick, run and gun kind of team,” he said.

That theory will first be tested Saturday when the Panthers participate in a jamboree at Franklin Pierce.
