It’s not always about the win in swimming, and the Bonney Lake High girls team showed that Thursday during a 139-42 loss to a deeper and more experienced Peninsula High team.

“The girls swam great,” assistant coach Nick Leigh said. “The girls made some great self improvements. Peninsula is a very tough team.”

More importantly, Leigh said, the girls showed great sportsmanship that even drew compliments from the Seahawks’ coaching staff.

Kelsi Potterf continued her first-place diving streak with a 215.60 performance.

The 200-yard medley relay of Ali Ehle, Juli Herbst, Ashley Karboski and Elise Duncan finished second in 2 minutes, 59.55 seconds. Herbst was also a second-place finisher in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:31.07.

In the 50 and 100 freestyle, Duncan finished third with a 28.91 and 1:05.84, respectively. Katie Koens was a third-place finisher in the 500 freestyle with a time of 7:25.77. Ehle was third in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:28.17.

The Panthers also picked up third-place finishes in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays. The 200 freestyle relay team of Duncan, Potterf, Ehle and Tosha Vance finished in 2:13.07 and Vance, Alexis Richardson, Sarah Suchower and Koens finished in 5:17.93 in the 400 freestyle relay.

Koens and Karboski raced to fourth-place finishes in the 200 freestyle and 200 individual medley, respectively, Koens posting a time of 2:46.15 and Karboski, 3:16.72.

The Panthers were scheduled to face Lakes Tuesday and then Enumclaw Thursday in back-to-back home meets. Start time is 3:30 p.m. at the Sumner pool.
