The following is a message from Sumner’s mayor Dave Enslow:
Last Thursday, we gathered with the Sumner School District and the City of Bonney Lake for the Community Summit. The theme was Serve Big, and that sure describes Sumner.
You hear on the news the bemoaning of lack of service, lack of involvement in society in general. That is certainly not the case in Sumner. Chief Moericke talked about the Coalition for a Drug-Free Community that was recently started between the School District and the two cities. City Planner Ryan Windish talked about how everyone can get involved with the updating of our Comprehensive Plan. And the Unsung Hero Awards honored a wide range of Sumner people, from teenagers like Hailey Windish to citizens just slightly older, including Officer Loren Houselog, Arlene Evavold and Northwood Baptist Church.
Whether you’re a student or a senior, involved with a local church or community group like Lions, Rotary, Kiwanis or Masons; you probably help serve in some way. Perhaps its with the Friends of the Library or with the Sumner Food Bank. It’s nice to know that Serve Big is already a way of life here in Sumner.
If you feel like you’d like to serve more, there are too many options in Sumner to list. One way to start is to join in the monthly meeting for the hosts of the Community Summit, the STARR project’s Communities for Families.
