The Bonney Lake High boys won two basketball games the week prior to Christmas and looked to be getting stronger as South Puget Sound League 3A play drew near.

The Panthers snapped a four-game losing streak Dec. 21 with an 80-74 victory over Foster, then posted an 88-78 win over Evergreen Dec. 22. The victories evened the team’s overall mark at 4-4.

Foster and Bonney Lake engaged in a tight contest that saw the Panthers clinging to a slim, one-point lead after three quarters of play. A 24-19 advantage during the final eight minutes spelled the difference.

Ramsey Thoms led Bonney Lake’s offense with 28 points, connecting on 12 of 23 field goal attempts. Nathan Day hit seven of his nine shots on the way to 19 points and Mikey Berger also was highly effective, scoring 16 points on 8-of-12 shooting.

Five Panthers managed double-figure scoring during the victory over Evergreen. Day finished with 18 points, Mike Gould had 17, Berger added 15, Thoms scored 14 and Lawrence Williams contributed 11. Berger and Gould pulled down 10 rebounds each and Day came away with eight steals.

Bonney Lake had a nonleague game Tuesday against Auburn Mountainview. League play begins Friday when the Panthers travel to Decatur.
