Monday morning’s rain-delayed NASCAR Sprint Cup race from Watkins Glen, N.Y., was filled with thrills and Enumclaw’s Kasey Kahne managed to finish the 90-lap event 17th.
Another Top 10 finish would have been nice, but 17th should have kept Kahne in the Top 12 in drivers’ standings. Prior to Monday’s race, Kahne sat in seventh with five races remaining until the 10-race shootout cutoff. The top 12 drivers after the Richmond, Va., race are eligible to vie for the Sprint Cup title.
Kahne won the road course race in Sonoma, Calif., earlier this season. Points leader Tony Stewart won Monday.

Sprint Cup series racing continues Sunday from Michigan. Television coverage begins at 10 a.m. on ESPN. Kahne was a 2006 winner at Michigan.
