The high school baseball season came to an end over the weekend with three players, two from Bonney Lake and one from Sumner, playing in the All-State Baseball Series in Yakima.
Sumner’s star pitcher Christian Parsons pitched during the first game of the series Saturday.
He pitched three innings and struck out two. Parsons gave up zero walks and allowed no runs to score.
When he entered the game for Team Adams in the third inning they had a 3-2 lead. And when Parsons left the game, his team was leading 4-2 over Team Baker.
Team Adams held onto its lead and won 6-2.
Representing Bonney Lake were shortstop Michael Gretler and pitcher Taiki Green.
In the second game of the day Saturday, Gretler singled with two outs and drove in the tying run for Team St. Helens.
Gretler scored the game winning run on a line drive over the left fielder’s head by Mount Si’s Evan Johnson.
Gretler went 1-2 that game with two runs scored.
Team St. Helens beat Team Rainier 6-5 in 12 innings.
Green came on in relief during the game Saturday and recorded the win.
Team Adams and Team St. Helens played Sunday in the championship game.
Team St. Helens won the final game 10-5.
St. Helens trailed 5-2 in the fifth inning. But after six walks and five hit batters, it scored five runs, taking the lead 7-5.
Team St. Helens scored its final runs of the game in the seventh inning of the championship game.
Gretler played the entire game Sunday and ended without a hit.
Bonney Lake’s coach Michael Olson said Gretler “played very well defensively” in his final game of his high school career.
Olson along with three other Panther coaches Bob Woods, Tim Luhring and Dylan Brown helped coach Team St. Helens over the weekend.
Green finished his career with a base hit in his final at bat in the championship game.
“All in all it was a blast going over there, we had a great time and our group of kids from around the state really came together and enjoyed playing with each other in a short amount of time,” Olson said. “Michael and Taiki were both of course big parts of that and it was the perfect way to top off an awesome season for us and careers for those two guys.”
