The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has released an investigation report for the Dog Mountain Fire that started in May of this year. The report concluded that the cause of the fire was a commercially made or homemade exploding target. At this time, there are no suspects.

The fire started the afternoon of May 4. After100 firefighters and 2 helicopters fought the blaze, it was contained to approximately 200 acres.

According to the Washington Administrative Code (WAC) 332-52-145, exploding targets are illegal on DNR-managed lands.

DNR wants to encourage you to be fire safe this summer. The hot temperatures will rapidly dry out the landscape.
