• A free cardio-pulmonary resuscitation class will be offered from 8:30 a.m. to noon Jan. 17 and 24 and Feb. 14; a free first-aid class will be taught from 1 to 5 p.m. the same day at the Public Safety Building in Bonney Lake. For residents who live outside the jurisdiction of EPFR, the cost is $30 for both classes or $20 for one class. Call the station to register.

There will also be drop boxes at Key Bank, 19610 state Route 410 E., Cedar Ridge Retirement and Assisted Living, 9515 198th Ave. E., and Java Java along with the Public Safety Building.
• The Bonney Lake Police Department is working on the annual Giving Tree for children in need in the area. Donations will be accepted at the Public Safety Building. The department is asking people to donate early to allow time for delivery of the gifts. Drop boxes are located in the lobby of the Public Safety Building, which is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.. Other locations include Grocery Outlet, 18318 SR 410 E., Pro-Build, 22816 state Route 410, and Key Bank.
• East Pierce Fire and Rescue firefighters will accompany Santa during his annual Santa Run visit Saturday and Sunday to neighborhoods within the district. This year James Parke, firefighter and emergency medical technician, is taking over as organizer of the event. For safety, the firefighters ask that everyone to stay on the sidewalk and out of the road. Firefighters will also be collecting donations for local food banks as they accompany Santa during his annual visit. Donations will be also accepted for the Chief Dan Packer Memorial Fund.
• Santa will hear requests from girls and boys at the 13th annual Pancake Feed from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday. The breakfast, hosted by the firefighters of East Pierce Fire and Rescue, will take place at the Sumner fire station, 800 Harrison St. The cost is a $3 donation. Tickets can be purchased at the door. Firefighters, fire commissioners and local dignitaries will be flipping flapjacks and serving ham, coffee and orange juice while Santa hobnobs with the crowd. A silent auction, featuring items donated by local businesses, will be available during the event.
• Musical families, bands, choirs, quartets and children’s choirs are invited to register to perform at “Sing from the Heart,” an annual event sponsored by Lakeland Hills Top Food and Drugs. The performances take place for 30 minutes each from 2 to 7 p.m. Dec. 12, noon to 7 p.m. Dec. 13 and noon to 5 p.m. Dec. 14. For each hour of music, the store will donate $50 to a local food bank.
