The Washington State Department of Revenue (Revenue) announced that Katie Gerard has been appointed assistant director of Human Resources. Gerard begins her position April 16, 2014.
Gerard has more than 20 years of experience working in human resources, most recently as the section chief for planning and strategy in the state’s Human Resources Division at the Office of Financial Management. Previously, she served as the human resources director at the former state Department of Personnel.
Throughout her years of state service, Gerard has played a key role in important statewide initiatives, including the implementation of the Human Resources Management System in 2006 and developing new civil service rules in response to the Personnel System Reform Act of 2002. She will continue supporting efforts to shape a model system to manage employee time, leave and attendance for state agencies.
“Katie brings a wealth of human resources knowledge and experience that will benefit both taxpayers and Revenue,” Revenue Director Carol K. Nelson said. “Her excellent communications and interpersonal skills have earned her the respect of many who have had the privilege to work with her.”
In her new position with Revenue, Gerard will continue to help build Revenue as a model employer. At the statewide level, she plans to work with Results Washington to meet its Goal 5: Efficient, Effective and Accountable Government by helping develop better state employment strategies based on responses from the state employee survey.
“Revenue is such a well-regarded agency, I am looking forward to continuing a strong tradition of excellence,” Gerard said.
