The local, premier soccer team Mount Rainier Futball Club (MRFC) Vipers earned a championship at the Kitsap Kickoff the first weekend in September. The Vipers, a boys U14 team, played in the older U15 bracket, and after a number of tough matches secured the title with a 1-0 win over Storm King Lightning ’94.
“As a first-year team playing in an older bracket, we knew it would be a challenging weekend,” Vipers coach Bill Combs said. “We played teams who were older, bigger, and at times faster and stronger. I am extremely proud of how the Vipers consistently played as a team and showed our strength to control the ball and use smart plays. The boys really played their hearts out and deserved the championship win.”
The Vipers team is made up of players from Bonney Lake, Buckley, Lake Tapps and Enumclaw. As the regular soccer season kicks off, a couple of open positions still remain on the Vipers’ roster. Interested players can contact Combs through www.mtrainierfc.org.
