The White River High soccer team opened the season by splitting a pair of nonleague contests.
The exciting part of the first week of play came Thursday night. In front of a home crowd, the White River girls knocked off Enumclaw 1-0. Much of the first half was played in Enumclaw’s offensive end, but the score was deadlocked after the initial 40 minutes. The game’s only tally came in the 49th minute when Ashley Powell scored off an assist by Morgan Clough.
White River’s Kylie Englebert earned the shutout in goal.
The Hornets opened the season Sept. 6 with a 3-0 loss to visiting Black Hills. The Lady Wolves play in the Class 2A Evergreen Conference. The Hornets were in search of a second victory Tuesday when they traveled to Sumner for the opening of the SPSL 2A campaign. Thursday, White River hosts Clover Park. Games begin at 7 p.m.
