The Enumclaw Hornets traveled to Sunset Chev Stadium in Sumner Friday night and brought home a hard-fought 35-28 win over Bonney Lake.
The Hornets are 1-1 in South Puget Sound League 3A and 2-2 overall. The Panthers are 0-2 in league and 1-3 overall. Auburn Mountainview leads the league at 2-0.
Enumclaw plays Auburn 7 p.m. Friday at Pete’s Pool Field in a nonleague game and it is homecoming for the Hornets.
The Hornets game against the Panthers was a battle from the opening kickoff. The teams went into the half tied at 21.
Coach Mark Gunderson said by email, “We were very proud of the way our team fought and clawed to win that game Friday. We played with great passion and desire, and the end result was one they were proud of.”
Tyler Harris and Sam Schuler were a dynamic force on the defensive side of the ball. Harris had 23 tackles and Schiler 22.5 with an interception forced by Harris when he hit the quarterback and had him in the grasp.
Enumclaw quarterback Scotty Garvin once again showed he is one of the top passers in the league hitting Tarik Hagan for three touchdowns.
Gunderson said Mason Harp “had a breakout night running the ball.”
