Candidate Filing Week has produced more than 3,000 official candidates this year. It’s supposed to be an off-year election, but Washington voters will have plenty of local races on their ballots.

Our State Elections Division reported Monday that 3,134 candidates filed their declaration of candidacy last week in 37 of Washington’s 39 counties, including 15 state candidates (eight for the three state Senate races and seven for five judicial races). Of that total, 61 candidates have withdrawn. These figures don’t include filings in King and Yakima counties, which are not part of the Washington Election Information system. King County reports there have been 541 candidate filings, with 14 candidates having later withdrawn. Yakima County has 130 candidate filings, with no candidate withdrawing.

The overall number of candidate filings throughout the state is 3,805, with 75 of them having later withdrawn.

Candidates had until the close of business Monday to withdraw their candidacy.

There were 3,308 elected offices open statewide.
