Buckley resident Hugh Franklin “Bud” Kneeland died April 10, 2011, at the age of 84. He died following a short illness while visiting his sister in Sun Lakes, Ariz.

He was born Nov. 8, 1926, in Tacoma to Gertrude T. and Hugh S. Kneeland. He attended school in Buckley, was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1945 and, as a young man, worked as a movie projectionist. He met his future wife, Anna, while both worked at a Puyallup movie theater. He married Anna Durant in 1952. He attended Bates Vocational School, obtained an operating engineers license, was a member of IBEW Local 483, and worked as a television engineer and camera man in Tacoma and Portland, Ore. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed an active lifestyle including maintaining his family home and acreage, fishing, hunting and walking.

He is survived by daughters Teresa Carlson of Elma, Wash., Kathy Bowen of Puyallup and Karen Morrison of Harstine Island, Wash.; son David Kneeland of Enumclaw; brother Gene Kneeland of Brinnon, Wash.; sisters Janice Gibson and Frances Sutherland of Sun Lakes and Marilyn Arends of Tacoma; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna, in 1994, brother Rex Kneeland and sisters Nell Jorgenson, Gertrude Otis and Beverly Vosper.

Graveside services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 23, at the Sumner City Cemetery. An open house will follow at the family home in Buckley.
