Gordon Stephenson

Longtime Enumclaw resident Gordon R. Stephenson, 77, died March 27, 2011, in Tacoma.

He was born Nov. 17, 1933, in Tacoma to Sumter and Lillian (Lindstrom) Stephenson. He was raised in Enumclaw and graduated from Enumclaw High School. He worked on the family dairy farm before serving in the United States Marine Corp from February 1953 to February 1956. He married Patricia Underwood on Feb. 3, 1961, in West Seattle. He was a police officer with the Auburn Police Department from September 1964 to October 1976 and retired as a sergeant. He enjoyed fishing, shooting, hunting and anything that was outdoors. He regularly met his friends in town for coffee and breakfast.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years Patricia Stephenson of Tacoma; son Kyle Stephenson of Auburn; brothers Daniel Stephenson of Austin, Texas, and Ron Stephenson and wife Linda of Naches, Wash.; sister Kathy Anderson of Burien, Wash.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded by sister-in-law Susan Stephenson and brothers Richard Stephenson Donald Stephenson.

A memorial service is planned for 3 p.m. Friday, April 8, at Tahoma National Cemetery. A reception will follow at 4:30 p.m. at the Four Seasons restaurant in Enumclaw.
