Bruce Holmes, local artist and resident of this area for more than 44 years, died July 4, 2016, in Enumclaw.
He was born March 19, 1946, in Waverly, Iowa, and studied art at State College of Iowa, now the University of Northern Iowa. A metal sculptor, he worked primarily with stainless steel and bronze and became known for his large pieces that were installed as public art. His artwork was created for, and displayed by, cities throughout the area. He was prominent in the Puyallup Arts Downtown Sculpture exhibit Program and was a former first-place winner in Enumclaw’s juried art show.
He is survived by brother John L. Holmes of West Warwick, R.I., and sister Rebecca Johnson of Fairbanks, Alaska.
A memorial took place Aug. 6 in Puyallup and a downtown art event. His ashes were placed in one of his sculptures and will be included in the family plot in Waverly.
