Mary Shannon (Scott) Oien died Feb. 4, 2017.

She was born May 29, 1931, in Cheraw, Colo., to Clyde and Florence Scott. The family, including sisters Joyce and Sherrill and brother Merle, lived in Colorado, California, Oregon and finally Washington. She attended Auburn High School, graduated in 1948, and married Keith E. Oien in 1952. They bought their first disposal company in south Seattle in 1953 and were self-employed for the next 25 years. They sold their businesses and retired in 1979, then spent the next 35-plus years enjoying each other, working outdoors and taking long drives in the country.

She is survived by daughters Gayle Pearl and Janelle Paglia, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
