Helen “Marie” Darney-Hubbard died March 12, 2017, at the age of 90.
She was born Oct. 28, 1926, in Lake Stevens, Wash., the third child of Frederick C. Bruce and Frances E. (Hossle) Bruce. She grew up and went to school in Lake Stevens. She met Thomas E. Darney and they were married on Feb. 8, 1946, in Seattle. Both worked for Weyerhaeuser and moved to Enumclaw in 1947 where she lived until her death.
Many years later while running her bookkeeping/key punch business in Enumclaw, she met George D. Hubbard and they were married on March 26, 1971. He was the owner of Hubbard CPA Accounting and the couple worked together until they retired. They enjoyed trips to Reno and Lake Tahoe for golf and playing cards, dice, bingo and slot machines. She loved chocolate, dancing, attending garage sales, gardening and canning green beans and asparagus.
She is survived by son Robert T. (Jan) Darney of Enumclaw; stepdaughters Gail Ford and Nancy Hitchcock of Enumclaw and Janie (Greg) Stitzieger of Corona, Calif.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husbands Thomas Darney and George Hubbard; sister and brother-in-law Darleen and Leonard Rein; and brother Wayne Bruce.
