Josh Musick and Kario Wallin teamed up for back-to-back championships at 152 and 160 pounds, respectively, Saturday at the Central Kitsap Mat Men tournament.
The Enumclaw High seniors’ first-place finishes tightened the race for the team title. Orting eventually won the event with 218 points. Graham-Kapowsin was second with 209 points and EHS was third with 205.
Enumclaw’s Hunter File was also in the finals, finishing second at 130 pounds.
“Our upper weights really came through for us,” coach Lee Reichert said.
Tyke Reid, 112, Lucas Somera, 140, Colten Malek, 189, T.J. Cormier, 215, and Chris Williams, 285, earned third-place medals.
Travis Reano, 125, Cole Snider, 135, and Marcus Nichols, 145, were fifth.
Saturday, the Hornets sent their junior varsity team to the West Seattle High varsity tournament, where the Hornets captured the team title, edging Evergreen by 2 1/2 points.
Wrestling day-in and day-out with varsity team paid off, coach Adam Eilers said.
“It was close and exciting,” Eilers said. “It was intense. We were in a circle handing out medals and crossing our fingers hoping to win.”
EHS took 13 wrestlers to the 17-team tournament, placed nine and put four in the finals.
Jonathan Sugihara was the Hornets’ lone champion. Colton Sambrano, Ryan Anderson and Russell Horton were also in the championship bout, finishing second.
Colton Hodges, Sam Haney, Justin Mitchell, Kyler Burnett and Riley Sexton earned third-place finishes.
The Hornets also kept their 36-match South Puget Sound League winning streak intact with a victory over Auburn Mountainview Thursday and a nip-and-tuck battle with White River Jan. 12. The Hornets have added a home dual match with defending Class 1A champion Orting at 7 p.m. Jan. 26.
