Since 1980 the Make-A-Wish Foundation has been granting wishes to children all over the United States.
In the Black Diamond area, a little boy named Hunter Coffman, age 3, was granted the wish of a puppy.
Not just any puppy though, a puppy who looks like “a Snoopy dog” from the “Peanuts” comic strip created by Charles M. Schulz.
Hunter’s original wish was to go to Disney World, but his brain cancer returned, making the trip impossible.
The Make-A-Wish volunteer, who has been helping Hunter, went above and beyond to make his second wish come true.
On June 19, Traci Bozlinski, the volunteer, flew to Phoenix to get the last beagle puppy in the litter. This was the closest state where the foundation could find a pure-bred beagle who resembled Snoopy.
That same day at about 6 p.m. Bozlinski took the puppy, named Scout, to Hunter at his grandparent’s home.
When Hunter saw his new puppy he was overjoyed. He and his older brother, Chase Coffman, played with Scout the rest of the night while Hunter shouted, “I have a puppy!”
The Make-A-Wish Foundation began in the early 1980s in Arizona for 7-year-old Chris Greicius, who was dying of leukemia. According to the foundation website, Chris became Arizona’s first and only honorary Department of Public Safety officer. Chris wanted to be a police officer “to catch bad guys.”
