Onshore winds are clearing wildfire smoke in the skies over western Washington.

The National Weather Service in Seattle has extended the Air Quality Alert through noon on Thursday, Aug. 10.

Thanks to improving air quality, the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency has lifted an air quality burn ban issued last week.

However, a fire safety burn ban issued by the King County Fire Marshal for unincorporated King County remains in effect until further notice.

Continued dry weather has increased the risk of wildfires across the Puget Sound region.

On Tuesday, Seattle was expected to break the record for longest period without measurable rainfall. The old record, 51 days, was set in 1951.
