Sumner High two-way football standout Ben Wilson was recently honored for his accomplishments by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association.
The WIAA sponsors an “Athlete of the Week” program and Wilson was singled out for his performance during the week of Nov. 5-11.
Each week throughout the school year, the WIAA recognizes varsity athletes who exhibited an outstanding performance for the previous week (based off of nominations). All varsity level students in good academic standing at their schools are eligible to receive the WIAA Athlete of the Week Award.
Nominations are open to athletic administrators, coaches, fans and media.
A senior, Wilson sparked Sumner’s first-round victory in the Class 4A playoffs, leading the Spartans to a 42-14 victory over Union. On offense, he carried the ball 20 times for 191 yards and scored two touchdowns. On defense, Wilson recorded seven tackles at linebacker.
Wilson has verbally committed to play football for Texas Christian University.
