The Harlem Wizards will bring their special brand of basketball to the Plateau, performing May 11 in Enumclaw High’s Chuck Smith Gymnasium.

Promotional materials tout the Wizards as delivering a “high-flying, slam-dunking, rim-rattling” show.”

Perhaps not quite as high-flying or rim-rattling will be their opponents. Squaring off against the Wizards will be Teachers in Sneakers, a group of Enumclaw School District administrators, principals, teachers and paraeducators.

The evening of fun and fundraising begins when the doors open at 6 p.m., with the game tipping off at 7.

Aside from the Wizards’ hoop artistry, the evening includes a pregame “Wiz Kids” warm-up, contests, comedy, audience participation, merchandise giveaways and more.

The game will conclude with the Wizards’ signature dance extravaganza aimed at getting the crowd on its feet.

The Wizards have been around since 1962 and now have three units that crisscross the USA and travel the globe.

Tickets prices are $10 for students and $12 for all others if purchased in advance; at the door, the cost bumps up to $12 and $15.

There are also reserved seats for $20 (close to the court and includes a team poster) and a “courtside plus” option for $35 (reserved seating, pregame meet-and-greet with players, souvenir lanyard, color team photo and $10 discount on a Wizards replica jersey).

The event is sponsored by the Enumclaw Schools Foundation, a nonprofit group that exists to provide district students with opportunities beyond what state funding allows.

Among the ESF success stories are the annual STEM Expo, the districtwide Birth to Five Initiative and various “enrichment and innovation” grants made available to district teachers.
