On the morning of Tuesday, July 31, 2018, members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 11401 from Milton Washington recognized two members of East Pierce Fire and Rescue at Fire Station 118 in Edgewood.

VFW Post 11401 had sponsored Firefighter/EMT Lance Schinkal and Firefighter/Paramedic Jennifer Killion in VFW District 3 for recognition as Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician of the Year, respectfully.

FF/EMT Schinkal was named the VFW District 3 Firefighter of the Year, while FF/PM Killion received honors as both the VFW District 3 and VFW Washington State EMT of the Year.

Having been honored at ceremonies at the District and State levels, today was an opportunity for VFW Post 11401 to recognized Schinkal and Killion locally.

Certificates were presented by Post Commander Jack Chandler “For outstanding contributions to the community, and service with East Pierce Fire and Rescue. You have demonstrated innovative insights to your profession that has brought a level of excellence to the community and East Pierce Fire and Rescue”

Fire Chief Bud Backer thanked the Veterans for recognizing Schinkal and Killion. Backer further thanked the Vets, stating “but most of all, I’d like to thank each of you for your service to our nation, and helping to protect the freedoms that we have”.
