Prep football: EHS remains undefeated with win over Rams

White River and Sumner also had good games, but Bonney Lake fell to Lincoln.

Local football teams won three of four games last Friday and all remain at .500 or better for the season.

ENUMCLAW

The Hornets have climbed into the state’s Top 10 rankings and showed they belonged, whipping previously unbeaten Auburn Riverside 21-7.

The win was the first in North Puget Sound League 4A play for the Hornets, who now sit at 4-0 overall.

Playing on their home turf, the Hornets first reached the scoreboard courtesy of a long punt return by Jackson McCann in the second quarter. EHS took a 14-7 lead into halftime after quarterback Kellen Kranc scored on a 2-yard run.

The only score of the second half came in the third period when Nick Harberts took off on a 42-yard touchdown gallop.

Enumclaw’s next test is a rare Saturday game. The Hornets will trek to Highline Memorial Stadium to take on Kennedy Catholic. It’s a league game with an early, 5 p.m. start.

WHITE RIVER

White River showed its dominance early Friday night, posting three touchdowns in the first quarter and two more in the second period, taking a 35-0 lead into halftime against the Lindbergh Eagles.

By the time the final buzzer sounded, the Hornets had walked away from Renton Memorial Stadium with a 56-7 triumph.

With the win, White River improved to 3-0 in South Puget Sound League 2-0 play and 3-1 overall. Next up for White River is this Friday’s Homecoming contest against the Foster Bulldogs. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. on the rural Buckley campus.

White River’s romp past Lindbergh was highlighted by four TD passes by quarterback TJ Stroschein, two rushing touchdowns by Jack Ervien and two more by Payne Plaster. In addition, Chris Dominguez was good on all eight extra-point attempts.

On the receiving end of Stroschein’s scoring passes were Jacob Selander, Hunter Smith and Riley Thompson. Selander hauled in a pair of TD tosses, one from 30 yards and the second from 8 yards out.

SUMNER

The Spartans improved to 3-1, both in SPSL 4A play and overall, with a 28-26 win over Curtis High.

Friday’s win, at Sunset Chev Stadium, saw the host Spartans jump to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter. Scoring honors first went to Mitchell Wolfe on a pass from Austin Grondahl, then Deaundre Stoudamire, also on a toss from Grondahl, and finally Tyler Ruch on a short TD blast.

Curtis (2-1, 3-1) made it interesting with a pair of second-quarter scores, but Ruch pushed Sumner’s lead to 28-12 with his second short scoring burst.

The Spartans return to league action this Friday, playing for the second time this season at Sparks Stadium in downtown Puyallup. This time, the opponent will be the Rogers Rams (2-1, 2-2).

BONNEY LAKE

Facing the league-leading Lincoln Abes, the Panthers suffered through a dismal Friday night, eventually falling 49-0.

The loss dropped Bonney Lake to 1-1 in Pierce County League 3A play and 2-2 overall.

The team will be looking to rebound this Friday against the Lakes Lancers (2-0, 2-2). Game time is 7 p.m. at Sunset Chev Stadium in Sumner.
