John Spear died Dec. 26, 2018.

He was born in 1932 in Brooklyn, New York. He worked in advertising for the Tacoma News-Tribune before retiring to help his wife run their restaurant, Charlie’s Café, full time. When he wasn’t peeling potatoes at the café he loved to spend time with family, play cards, hike, read and do crossword puzzles.

He is survived by wife Charlotte Spear; daughters Jamie Kelly (Kevin), Carrie Nyland and Linda Price; son Kevin Hathaway (Nancy); 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
