SOFTBALL
The Enumclaw High softball squad kicks off the 2019 campaign this week, looking to improve upon last season’s record that was basically a break-even affair.
The 2018 Hornets managed an 8-6 mark in North Puget Sound League play and finished the regular season right at .500 (12-12).
When practices opened Feb. 25, coach Mike Eckhart welcomed back a handful of familiar, varsity faces. Among those key returnees are senior infielders Logan Breidenbach and Taylor Anglin, fellow senior Danika Seabrands and sophomore pitcher Jenna Ritzdorf.
Eckhart will see his troops in action for the first time this Saturday when the Hornets travel to a jamboree hosted by Auburn High School.
BASEBALL
The Enumclaw High baseball team saw some talent walk off the diamond and graduate, but coach Eric Fiedler has welcomed some proven talent to this year’s roster.
How everything comes together will play out throughout the season, but Fiedler will get his first look this Friday when his club hosts the baseball version of the Battle of the Bridge. Enumclaw will host neighboring White River, with the first pitch set for 7 p.m. under the lights at Osborne Field.
The following day, EHS will be tested with a road trip to the Sequim Jamboree.
Familiar names on this year’s roster include seniors Kyle Dunning and Travis Smith.
Last season’s Hornets tied for third in the North Puget Sound League’s Olympic Division with a 7-7 mark and went 11-9 overall.
