The Enumclaw girls double team of Kayla Zillbauer and Camille Clare brought home eighth place after winning two of four matches in the 3A state doubles championship Friday at Kamiakin High School in Kennewick.
Zillbauer and Clare, both juniors, lost their first match to Sophia Gage and Lydia Venditti from Mercer Island 6-1, 6-2. Mercer Island ended up taking second.
The girls won their next round over Helena Eitel and Megan Hodge from Lakeside 6-2, 6-4.
The next match the girls won 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 over Bishop Blanchet.
The girls lost the final match of the tournament 6-0, 6-0 to Sofia Morrison and Sarah Morgan from Southridge.
Coach Rick Carel said by email, “For two young players that was a great tournament. (They) lost to a team that was in the finals then won against a very good Lakeside team. I’m very proud of them.”
