The people of Black Diamond come together to celebrate a few times a year, but nothing tops the small town’s annual Labor Days festivities.

This year will be no different, as organizers have planned three days of fun.

The single biggest event, the parade along state Route 169, kicks off at 10 a.m. Monday. Serving as grand marshal will be Johnathan Hillstrand, captain of The Time Bandit and star of TV’s popular show, “The Deadliest Catch.” Following the parade, Hillstrand will head to the Black Diamond Eagles for an autograph session.

Monday will begin with a pancake breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. at the Masonic Lodge and will include a car show at the Eagles and live entertainment beginning at 1:30 p.m.

Saturday’s schedule includes the second annual Doggie Days, an event that proved popular during its debut a year ago. People are free to enter their canines in a variety of categories; added this year are agility demonstrations and a training dog demonstration.

A family movie will be shown free at 9 p.m. Saturday on the elementary school playfield.

Sunday will start a pie-baking contest. Entry forms providing contest details can be found at area businesses. Sunday will include games for children and women at 10:30 a.m., a pair of live bands providing entertainment beginning at 11 a.m. and the traditional citizenship awards announced at 1 p.m.

Various vendors will be set up Sunday and Monday and volunteers at the Black Diamond Historical Museum will be greeting museum visitors both days.
