White River basketball teams tipped off in league play 26 times this season and the result was a perfect slate – that’s 13 South Puget Sound League 2A victories for the Hornet girls and an equal number for the Hornet boys.
With that notable achievement now tucked away in the record books, each program heads into postseason play. The journey begins this week with the SPSL tournament and, for those talented enough to survive, continues with the West Central District tourney that stretches from Feb. 12 to the 22nd.
The ultimate prize is advancing to the state Sweet 16 and a chance to play in the March 4-7 state tournament in the Yakima Valley SunDome.
Both White River programs – the girls coached by Chris Gibson and the boys under the direction of Zach Johnson – concluded the regular season Friday night with victories over the Foss Falcons.
The White River programs, both girls and boys, will participate this week in the South Puget Sound League 2A tournament.
The girls play first, taking the court tonight (Wednesday) and the boys will play Thursday. Both games will in the White River gymnasium, both will begin at 7 p.m. and both will be against the Franklin Pierce Cardinals.
The girls’ league tourney concludes Friday and the boys will play again Saturday.

ENUMCLAW HIGH HOOPS
The Enumclaw boys finished the North Puget Sound League 4A season with three consecutive victories, winding up 8-6 in league play and 10-10 overall.
Postseason play began Monday with a seeding game against Auburn Riverside at Auburn Mountainview. Depending upon the outcome of that contest, the EHS boys will play either tonight (Wednesday) or Thursday, against Kentlake or Mount Rainier.
Next comes the West Central/Southwest District tournament which begins with play-in games Feb. 10 and the full tourney, which kicks off Feb. 12 and runs through the 22nd.
From district play, eight squads will advance to regional competition.
The Enumclaw High girls wrapped up the regular season by finishing 5-9 in league play and 6-13 overall.
Their postseason experience began Monday against Thomas Jefferson. It was a loser-out contest with the winner advancing. If still alive, the Hornet girls would play tonight (Wednesday) to determine the No. 9 or No. 10 seed into the district tourney.
The West Central/Southwest District tourney will be staged Feb. 13 through Feb. 22 at various sites.
