Black Diamond Mayor Carol Benson officially declared a state of emergency for her city last Friday, March 13.
In a press release, the city stated this is all in an effort to minimize the spread of the COVID-19 virus, as well as allow city staff to focus on managing emergency efforts and concentrate on essential city services during the outbreak.
As of last Saturday, March 14, Benson canceled all city council and commission meetings, as well as all rentals of the Black Diamond Community Gym.
While City Hall and the police department will remain open to the public, the Community Development, Public Works, and MDRT departments will close to residents and visitors, although staff can be reached by phone to schedule appointments.
The Black Diamond Municipal Court is also suspending normal operations; custody hearings will be done over the phone, and all other hearings will be postponed to an unspecified date. Those summoned to the court are encouraged to contact their legal counsel or the court clerk for more informations and directions.
These closures and cancellations are planned through March 31, though the city will determine if an extension is needed.
