A message from Mayor Jan Molinaro

“The best example of encouragement you can give someone for wearing a mask is to wear a mask yourself.”

Dear Enumclaw Residents,

I know there is much in the news about the recent announcement from Gov. Jay Inslee in regards to face coverings, and their required use, which took effect last Friday, June 26. I wanted to reach out to the community and reiterate that the city of Enumclaw is taking the approach of continuing to educate on the use of face coverings. As the governor stated in his address, the best example of encouragement you can give someone for wearing a mask is to wear a mask yourself.

We ask that you approach your neighbors and guests in our community with civility and kindness, as each person could have a health condition or other circumstances that prevent them from utilizing face coverings. Also, as the governor reminded us, it is your first amendment right to be able to exercise your freedom of speech without wearing a face covering. We as the city of Enumclaw, do not intend to infringe upon your rights or assess charges for the exercising of these rights.

Further, we respectfully request that citizens do not call 911 or our police dispatch center to report citizens or business employers, employees, or customers not wearing face coverings. As the governor shared in his press conference, our police officers and limited resources are needed for far more important matters within our city.

Thank you for your time and consideration regarding this matter. We know this is a stressful and challenging time with information constantly changing. I hope this message finds you and your families healthy. Let’s continue to support each other, our small businesses and be respectful to the great community we all call home. Have a great day Enumclaw!

Sincerest Regards,

Jan Molinaro, Mayor

City of Enumclaw
