Local gym hosts second 24-hour biking marathon for charity

Francisco Pons will be cycling nonstop from Friday, Oct. 9, to Saturday, Oct. 10.

Enumclaw’s Plateau Athletic Club is once again hosting a 24-hour bicycle charity fundraiser.

The fundraiser begins Friday, Oct. 9 at noon, and will end Saturday, Oct. 10, at noon.

Last year PAC’s cycling coach Francisco Pons celebrated his 56th birthday by riding his instructor bike for 24 hours non-stop and raised over $3,000 in donations for St. Jude Children’s hospital,” Vanessa Pons-McSheridan wrote in an email interview. She added that Francisco averaged a speed of 18 miles per hour, which totaled up to around 432 miles during last year’s event. “The successful outcome of the first PAC Giving Back event wouldn’t of been possible if it wasn’t for the wonderful community surrounding our fitness studio and of course all the encouragement and support from the PAC itself.”

This year, the money raised during the fundraiser will be donated to Cancer Cartel, a local non-profit that aims to financially support those fighting cancer by helping pay for groceries or getting utility bills and mortgages taken care of.

There are several ways the public can get involved.

First, you can join Francisco by hopping on a socially-distanced stationary bike at the PAC (1540 Cole St.) to keep him company.

If you don’t want to get physically involved, you can still head to the PAC to buy some raffle tickets for various prizes, including a custom Pons Rebuild bike.

Finally, you can donate directly to Cancer Cartel via check donated to PAC or heading online to https://www.cancercartel.com/.
