The inaugural Buckley Youth Activity Center 3-On-3 Basketball Shoot-Out “Attack The Rack” was a relatively successful hoop happening, as eight squads signed up to compete on that sunny summer Saturday, July 18, with each team contributing a $30 sign-up fee to the cause.
Ironically, in a tournament that was held as a fundraiser to install lights on the court, “Team Lights Out” won the whole thing in the 16-and-Up bracket. That contingent was made up of Zack Johnson. Cody Goetz, Michael Buck and Dustin South. Several recognizable b-ball players from the Buckley area, namely Casey Zimmer and Anthony Greenlee, who both graduated from White River High School a couple of months ago, made the scene. Meanwhile, Derek Mohn, the captain of the second place Celtic squad, was the tournament MVP. Mohn is the one in this slideshow with the red shorts and the picturesque jump shot.
The main reason that the tournament was put together by Xavier McMillen and the BYAC, was to raise enough money to place light poles around the court, so that the cagers can play basketball at night, with the help of materials and time, donated by Buckley’s Arrow Lumber.
